Infrastructure Development Division

Introduction

Infrastructure Development Division (IDD) is basically responsible for formulating development policies on water resources and energy; transport; housing and drinking water; information and communication; environment, science and technology (alternative energy, hydrology and Meteorology) sectors of the country. It also involves in preparing annual, periodic and perspective plans and programmes; and monitoring and evaluating of development activities relating to aforementioned sectors. The Division is headed by the Joint Secretary, and carries out its responsibilities through three sections, namely (i) Water Resources and Energy (ii) Transport, Housing and Drinking Water, and (iii) Environment, Science and Technology. Each of the section headed by Programme Director (Under Secretary), perform under the overall guidance of Joint Secretary with the support of Planning Officers and other support staff. :

Roles and Functions

  • Prepare periodic plans and policies of Infrastructure Development Sectors that are specifically related with water Resources and Energy, Transport, Housing and Drinking Water, Information and Communication, Environment and Science and Technology sectors..
  • Finalize national goals, priorities and programmes relating to specific areas of Infrastructure development.
  • Participate at national workshops, seminars, meetings at both local level and international level organized by both government and non-governmental sector, related to formulation of national policies, status of project implementation, and selection of new projects and provide necessary suggestions in line with broad national policies.
  • Monitor and evaluate sector's development projects with the close cooperation with concerned ministries.
  • Facilitate and coordinate ministries.
  • Follow-up and provide necessary suggestions in the regular meeting of Ministerial level Development Action Committee (MDAC).
  • Identify problems and its envisaged solutions of related development projects and assist in organizing National level Development Action Committee (NDAC) with the close cooperation of concern ministries
  • Monitor and supervise related development projects and programmes with close coordination with Poverty Monitoring Division and Central Monitoring and Evaluation System (CMES).
  • Give approval to the new projects proposed by concerned ministries by analyzing the economical and technological aspects.
  • By realizing the science and technology as a cross cutting issue, sensitize all concerned ministries about its importance
