Introduction

National Planning Commission Secretariat (NPCS) is the Secretariat to support the National Planning Commission. The member secretary of the NPC serves as the secretary of the NPCS. The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) located out side of the NPCS, Singh Durbar complex also functions as the technical wing of the secretariat and mainly responsible for generating, processing and disseminating data and information required for planning purposes. The functions and responsibilities of the Secretariat are as follows:

To convene the meeting of the National Development Council, to prepare agenda for its consideration and to function as its Secretariat.
To act as the Secretariat of various councils, committee which HMG/N may constitute to carry out its executive functions.
To work as the chief executing agency for all the decisions made by the Commission.
To co-ordinate, monitor and evaluate development plans, policies and programmes.
There are Divisions and their Sections to carry out functions and responsibilities of the Secretariat which are as follows:
Economic Management Division  
Social Development Division  
Infrastructure Development Division  
Poverty Monitoring Division  
Agriculture and Rural Development Division
